Anglesey (Ynys Môn)
A small island with a big personality
Off the northwest coast of Wales lies the beautiful island of Anglesey, or Ynys Môn — a place rich in Welsh language, culture, and coastal scenery. As Wales’ largest island, Anglesey offers everything from sweeping beaches and tidal islands to rugged cliffs, wildlife, and peaceful villages.
Anglesey is easily reached in around 30 minutes from Glyn Shepherd’s Hut, making it one of the simplest and most rewarding coastal day trips during your stay.
Explore Beaumaris with its magnificent medieval castle and historic town walls, wander the wide sands of Rhosneigr, or head to the dramatic headlands around South Stack. Ynys Llanddwyn, Newborough Warren, Trearddur Bay and other favourites offer some of the most striking landscapes in North Wales — places that have inspired John to take thousands of photographs over the years. You’ll find a few of our current favourites below.
Despite its small size, Anglesey’s character shines through its varied scenery and deep sense of Welsh identity. It’s an island that rewards slow exploration and leaves a lasting impression — definitely worth a visit.
